The Wayfinder took over Newport's former Mainstay hotel in 2020 and, with New York firm Reunion Goods & Services on design duty, aimed for something closer to a well-loved beach house than a conventional hotel. Burnt red, mustard and blue accents brighten the white-walled lobby, where a U-shaped sofa, a glass-enclosed fireplace and rattan chairs invite guests to linger. Each of the 197 suites carries the same seaside palette of soft blue and green, dressed with vintage finds and linens from Rhode Island's own Matouk. Downstairs, the all-day restaurant Nomi Park serves New England staples, and a pool terrace strung with fringed umbrellas gives the property a resort feel just steps from the Newport waterfront.
