On the banks of the Douro River, an hour east of Porto, this working farm and vineyard has stayed in the Monteiro family since it was built in 1912. Diogo Monteiro, the previous owner's grandson and an architect by training, renovated the property with his wife Marcela in 2017, keeping seven farmhouse-style rooms and adding two villas with their own pools. Dinner changes daily and draws on the estate's organic garden rather than a fixed menu, while an infinity pool looks out over vineyards and river traffic below. Wine tastings and walks through the vines are part of the rhythm here, making Quinta de São Bernardo a natural stop for anyone visiting the Douro for the wine as much as the scenery.
