Built across a nineteenth-century estate in the seaside town of Lagos, Casa Mãe splits its 30 rooms between three distinct buildings, each with its own personality but the same easy, sun-drenched mood. Five suites in the original mansion keep their sash windows and French balconies; three bohemian-chic cabanas come with private pools and outdoor showers; and 22 more minimalist rooms sit in the newer Jogo Da Bola wing with terracotta floors and hammock-strung balconies. Orta restaurant cooks farm-to-table meals from the hotel's own vegetable garden, and a triangular pool, permaculture garden and henhouse fill out the grounds, alongside a boutique stocking Portuguese ceramics and weaving. A newer wellness wing adds a rooftop pool and gym for good measure.
